In-Depth Spotlight of the Ingredient Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract:

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract is the oil from the green tea plant.  Green tea has been shown to offer significant benefits for our skin when applied topically. It is a powerful skin antioxidant, has anti-inflammatory powers, can repair DNA damaged by UV radiation, can protect the skin from UVB radiation, and reduce water loss through the epidermis. Its major polyphenol constituents, catechins (a family of phenolic antioxidants), have been reported to have many skin health benefits.

Green Tea Leaf Extract is loaded with other skin-loving nutrients, such as carotenoids and vitamins E and C which also protect skin from sun damage, heal scars, and enhance skin tone. It also contains the methylxanthines that stimulate microcirculation, helping even the tone and health of the skin.

Benefits of Green Tea:

Antioxidant: Green tea is a rich source of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Epigallocatechin gallate is made of polyphenols that target free radicals, particularly those caused by UV-induced skin damage. Antioxidants are substances that fight free radicals which are known to damage DNA and cause skin cell death. Free radicals contribute to the aging, cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants, such as polyphenols in green tea has a cell protecting function that neutralize free radicals while reactivating dying skin cells and potentially prevent and reduce sun damage.

Anti-Inflammatory: Green tea contains a high content of polyphenols called catechins. The catechins reduce irritations, redness and swelling.  Topically applied green tea has been shown to inhibit UV-induced inflammation, combat DNA damage, and reduce the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Antibacterial: Clinical study showed that Green tea has a potent antibacterial activity. The polyphenols in green tea damage bacterial membranes and fight against infection, meaning that it’s a useful tool for treating bacterial growth that causes acne. It helps kill systemic bacterial inflammation for smoother, toned skin. Additionally, green tea reduces the inflammation in the pores, which is associated with acne. Offering natural astringent qualities, green tea also decreases excess sebum production.

Skin Firming: Green tea has inhibitory action on collagenase (a collagen-reducing enzyme that breaks down collagen leading to thin and flattened dermis). Since green tea extract helps to inhibit collagenase, the topical use helps to promote the health and quantity of collagen, thereby maintaining a firm and elastic skin. In one clinical study was shown that the skin had measurably more elastic tissue content after continuous application of green tea extract.

It also contains Vitamin B2 and Vitamin E, both essential for skin health maintenance. B2 plays an essential role in maintaining collagen levels for youthful skin structure and firmness. Vitamin E supports new skin cell growth and also acts an intense hydrator for soft and nourished skin.

Reduces Puffy Eyes and Dark Circles: Caffeine and tannins in green tea help shrink blood vessels around the eyes, for treating puffy eyes, eliminating water retention and dark circles.
